History

Foundation (1994): Tej-Prasarini was established in 1994 as the communication wing of the Salesians of Don Bosco, Mumbai Province. This initiative aimed to enhance the communication and media outreach of the Salesians, focusing on spreading their educational and social messages more effectively.

First Publication (1994): The first major project undertaken by Tej-Prasarini was the publication of “Don Bosco’s Madonna,” a book that marked the beginning of their journey in print media. This publication set the tone for their future endeavors in producing educational and religious literature.

Expansion into Multimedia (Late 1990s): As technology advanced, Tej-Prasarini expanded its activities to include multimedia production. They began creating educational and religious videos, audio cassettes, and CDs, broadening their reach and impact. This expansion allowed them to cater to a wider audience and adapt to the changing media landscape.

Training Programs and Workshops: Recognizing the importance of media literacy and communication skills, Tej-Prasarini started conducting training programs and workshops. These programs were designed for teachers, students, and youth leaders, equipping them with the necessary skills to effectively use media for education and social change.

Significant Projects: Over the years, Tej-Prasarini has undertaken several significant projects. These include the production of various educational and religious videos that have been widely used in schools and communities. Their projects often focus on themes such as moral values, social issues, and spiritual growth.

Publications: Tej-Prasarini has published numerous books, magazines, and newsletters. These publications cover a range of topics including education, spirituality, and social issues. Their consistent output has made them a reputable source of educational and religious content in India.

Fr Peter Gonsalves

Founding-Director of Tej Prasarini 

FR PETER GONSALVES is from Mumbai, India. He was born in a family that experienced centuries of political, economic, social and cultural changes which transformed an archipelago of verdant islands into a congested and chaotic metropolis. His trilogy on Gandhi's communication through cloth and clothing is the result of twenty years of experience in the promotion of media education for a culture of peace. 

A priest and Salesian of Don Bosco, Peter founded Tej-prasarini  (Light-spreader), an educational publishing house in 1995, and in 2002, coordinated the first five-language web portal at the Salesian headquarters in Rome. He is a member of SIGNIS, a world association of Catholic communicators and served as president of INTERSIG (2004-2007), its international section. He has Master's diplomas in Philosophy (Jnanadeepa, Pune, 1982), Journalism and Communication (Symbiosis, Pune, 1993) and Media Education (British Film Institute, London, 2003).
